Why upload at all?

Most online PDF services work by uploading your document to their servers, processing it there and deleting it later. WhyUpload does the work on your own device instead, so contracts, IDs, medical records and bank statements stay with you.

Like any website, our host still sees ordinary connection data needed to deliver the app. Read the privacy notice.

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Every WhyUpload tool processes your document inside your browser tab using JavaScript and WebAssembly. WhyUpload has no endpoint that accepts documents. Your browser still downloads the app itself (and, for OCR, language data) from our site like any web page.

Does WhyUpload collect anything at all?

Only anonymous usage counts and feedback you choose to send. Counts say which page or tool was used, whether it finished or failed (as a category), a rough duration, the app version, screen-size class and theme — never your files, file names, sizes or text, and no cookies or identifiers. Turn them off in the footer or on the Privacy page; they are off automatically with Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track.

Do I need an account?

No. There is nothing to sign up for. Because nothing is uploaded, the practical size limit is your device’s memory rather than a server quota.

What happens to my file when I close the tab?

Documents are only held in the memory of the open tab. Use “Start over” to clear them right away, or close the tab. Files you download are saved on your device like any other download.

Can I use WhyUpload on my phone?

Yes. WhyUpload works in modern mobile browsers, and you can add it to your home screen.

Does it work with password-protected PDFs?

Yes, for files you are allowed to open. Use Unlock PDF to remove a password you know, or Protect PDF to add AES-256 encryption. Passwords are never stored.

Can I suggest a tool?

Yes. Use Feedback at the bottom of any page to tell us what you need. New tools are added only when they meet the same in-browser privacy standard as the rest.
